The Amazing Thing About Google
One Minute Pause No 10
By now we all know about Google. We all use it - frequently.
But what exactly is it about Google that has made it such a name?
People vary on the answer, but one thing is certain:
Google, like any search engine worth its salt, makes sense of the web.
As you know, the web is full of information contained within millions upon millions of sites.
If you didn’t have a good search engine on hand, then you would have to know specific and exact URL addresses and plug them into the address toolbar, one after one, until you (might) find what you are looking for.
A much better way is to put some keywords into Google, and within seconds you have what you need.
Many presenters could learn a thing or two from Google.
I think about 50-60% of presenters I have encountered leave it to their audience to try and sift through and find the information they need.
If that’s you - then bad, bad presenter! Dumping a bucket load of information on an audience is not the way to communicate well.
Most audiences really don’t have the time and inclination to do all the hard work themselves, and nor should they.
A better way is to be the Google for your audience.
By doing your homework prior and finding out just the information the audience needs, you can become like the world’s best search engine.
You will deliver to them relevant, problem solving information that saves them the time and effort to look themselves.
And just like the way we love Google, so will your audiences love you.
