Every little helps: Bank on Tesco to keep selling simple

Simple branding, simple strapline and even a simple jingle on the television ads – Tesco has nailed the art of keeping things straightforward for their customers. It’s an approach that to sales and customer engagement that I support 100% – along with being natural and authentic.
Recently I saw that Tesco Bank is going to be using its compiled Tesco Clubcard data to rate over 15m British households. Then target them with new mortgage packages. Makes perfect sense. Utilise the data and existing relationships to effectively upsell. Sometimes selling strategies are complicated for no reason. Keep it simple, and make saying ‘yes’ the easiest thing your customer has ever had to do.
The one challenge that companies have when they develop a strategy to ‘get more from what they’ve got’, is the resistance to selling from account managers. We see it all the time: “‘I didn’t become an Account Manager to sell.”
Want to get around this? OK. You need to break down the barriers to selling and the perceptions can surround it. Show that we all sell every day, whether we work in sales or not. By talking, building rapport and negotiating we are all demonstrating the skills needed to be a confident sales person. We naturally possess the ability to sell, so why not encourage more people within the business to do it! By building up a skill base that is proven and measurable you increase confidence and sales conversions. It’s as simple as that.
It’s what we do at Natural Training. We help companies convert those who don’t believe they can sell by demonstrating how easy and effective our techniques are. They can be used tomorrow to bolster organisational performance through increased profit and the exploiting of new opportunities from existing clients.
