Change Your Mindset – Make More Money
An innovative businessman and mastermind salesman once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.” Henry Ford was a natural at thinking in the realm of what might possible, looking at problems beyond the scope of what’s currently being done.
Ford also said at one point, “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said ‘faster horses.” Our thoughts can limit our creativity and keep us from reaching for success.
Your beliefs could be seriously limiting your sales. If you have the mindset that you only have a limited number of leads and you can only convert a certain amount of those into sales, you are, in effect, believing in a finite possibility for yourself. Thinking you don’t have enough of something limits how your mind works to come up with solutions. One example of limiting beliefs that hold you back is when you think you don’t have enough money to purchase something you want or something you need.
If I want to buy a house in 2015, my mind will automatically think “I don’t have the funds available to do that.” But by changing my mindset to one of positive possibilities, I will start to consider ways to get the money to achieve this goal, rather than all of the ways I can’t do it.
It takes some practice to change your mindset from one of lack to one of abundance and possibility. The following examples will help you keep moving towards what’s probable instead of what’s impossible:
1. Become conscious of your thoughts and beliefs. Examine your thoughts when you think about money or sales. Do you think thoughts like, “If only I could sell more this month, I’d make more money”? Try to capture those limiting beliefs and turn them on their head. Repeat to yourself at least three times to make it sink in: “I will figure out a way to make a difference for more clients this month.” Thoughts lead to action. Keep these positive thoughts foremost in your mind to guide your actions.
2. Tie your positive thoughts to a goal. Thinking “I can” instead of “I don’t have enough…” and then tying those thoughts to achievable goals each month will keep you moving forward one step at a time to achieve more success. Break down your goals into manageable steps each week and measure your success against how creative your actions were to achieve your goal. If you set the same goal each month for sales, you’ll never grow beyond where you are right now. Consistently strive towards new goals, in both your personal and professional lives.
3. Start thinking about sales from a different perspective. If you want to explode your sales in 2015, stop thinking about the outcome of a sales call or a presentation, and think instead of information gathering and how you can add value to a client. It’s not about the close. It’s about helping a client to a better place in his business. When you change your mindset from one of focused narrowly on the closing to one of partnering with your prospects and customers to find better ways, you expand your opportunities to be of service to clients. And your clients will thank you for that.
4. Control your thoughts; don’t let them control you. You choose what to believe. We all have that little voice in the back of our minds that keeps whispering “you’d better close more deals or you won’t have enough money to pay the rent.” You’re letting your thoughts control you. Learn how to shut off that nagging voice and focus on the behaviours and actions that will lead you to success. Realize that the voice does not control your destiny, you do.
Keep looking at your goals on a daily basis and consider them from a position of what’s possible rather than what you can’t do.
A final touch is to constantly keep your mind open to the possibilities around you that are yours for the taking. Find those golden opportunities to shine for your clients and prospects, and the rest will fall into place.
